The Thirty-Nine Steps.
Richard Hannay is a character who appears well described in the course of the story. Is an educated man who worked hard in Africa to return to his homeland with some savings to live well? The character has an outgoing personality and is shown as a brave and intelligent. Education, intelligence and courage are qualities highly valued human being.
The story takes place in Scotland , the birthplace of the author of the novel, John Bucham, too. For example: The Thirty-Nine Steps, refer to 39 steps formed by the rock of a cliff overlooking the sea, where German spies escape in this story. I think that's why the author makes a very good description of the Scottish countryside, which makes us imagine a very pleasant land, inhabited by friendly people.
In the novel can also be noted that the author knows about international affairs. He also knows how to develop the important issues at the highest levels of government.
The story is interesting, it looks real because it was written on the eve of an international war began Germany , against France and England .
I think it's a good story. On several occasions this novel has been filmed.

Lourdes,
ReplyDeleteYou've done a fantastic job of synthesizing this particular novel. It's comes in several parts and seems to have never been finished. Based on your observations, I think that very fact says a lot. It could symbolize how more salient aspects of human civilization revolve around times of war, and that world wars such as the one which occurred at the time of its writing, are not yet over. Have a wonderful summer, and keep reading in English!
